Trip Day 11 - Sunday0545-45F/37F! Coldest morning of the trip!
Verse of the day: "Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him." (Psalms 128:1)
0800-Study time as well as breakfast is done so I will prepare the boat for departure. The initial plan is to go up lake about 2 miles to attempt recovery of my PLB.
0815-Departed the anchorage.
0850-Arrived at PLB Island. It is sunny and calm.

The Island Where The PLB Was Lost
I anchored just to the east of the island, unhitched the kayak from it's tow yoke, loaded up and headed to the island where I previously went ashore. Found the PLB almost immediately. Right where I thought it should be.
|
PLB Recovered!
Returned to the boat, re-rigged the kayak tow yoke and set off after sending off a few messages that I found the errant PLB.
I crossed the channel to check out a trail (road) and boat landing previously observed visually, as well as on satellite photos.
Beached the boat at the landing, took photos, flew the drone, and checked the area for recent activity. It appeared frequently used.

Checking Out The Boat Landing
Observed a tent here when I passed on Leg 4. I decided, though a nice site and I could likely have a shore fire, it was a weekend and too likely for the peacefulness of the site to be interrupted by visitors. It's a beautiful day and I didn't want to ruin it with unexpected visitors, so I moved on.

Camping Area On Point - Boat Landing Is Notch At Top
I went north around a long peninsula to an anchorage nearby. Very close as the bird fly's.
1145-Anchored in 7' of water in a well protected anchorage, except to the N and NE. Will do the dishes, get a snack, and set up the shower after it warms up a bit. Traveled 7.5 miles.

Made a snack of fried French bread with Havarti cheese melted on top accompanied by white wine.
1415-Dishes are washed. Groomed my beard as it was a bit scruffy! Will set up the shower.
1600-Finished my hot shower and broke it down and stowed it away.

1720-Grilled a burger accompanied by baked beans, chips, and a frozen mug of beer. 75F/75F. Quite the contrast in temps with a low air temperature of 37F last night with water temp of 40F!
Currently thawing strawberries for ice cream and an ice ball for a Baileys.
1830-Sipping my evening libation (Baileys) and trying to determine tomorrow's move.
1850-Waiting for the sun to go behind the hill so I can sit out on the aft deck without the sun in my eyes.
2115-Sat on the aft deck until very late with no bugs. First time for this trip. I attribute that to the cold temperatures last night killing them off. However, with the warm temperatures today, after the rain, will likely lead to another hatch. Nevertheless, it is very pleasant to sit out tonight. A beautiful summer evening with nothing moving, very quiet. A few birds, a squirrel, and a raven. Seems weirdly quiet. It feels good to be clean again after that shower!
Short move anticipated for tomorrow. I will hit the sack and read until my eyes shut. Still some sun showing over the tops of the trees. Otherwise calm and clear. 69F/61F.
